The Ted Noffs Foundation is a non-government organisation based in NSW & ACT, providing residential and non-residential alcohol and other drugs interventions for adolescents and their families. Our aim is to facilitate an improvement in the lives of young people at risk of drug-related harm.
The Role:
Working as a member of a multi disciplinary team on day to day program management and delivery in a residential setting. Group management and crisis intervention skills, creativity, initiative and practical life skills and experience are essential along with the ability to organise positive recreational and educational activities.
Responsibilities will include:
- Implementing the general living skills component of the Program, including:
- identification and understanding by residents of their basis needs Nutrition and food preparation,
- Personal and household hygiene
- Exercise and recreation
- Money Management.
- Facilitating participation by residents in their care plans
- Ensuring appointments are attended
- Maintaining accurate progress records.
- On a rotating shift basis that includes weekends as rostered, supervise the day to day running of the household, including:
- Supervision of casual and junior staff, volunteers and students
- Allocation and supervision of residents chores
- Shopping and activities budgeting
- Accurate and efficient shift handover to other staff
- Provide information and support as necessary to residents during their participation in the Program and in their preparation for re entry into the community. Facilitate contacts with families as required.
- Under supervision, and in line with the approved Program manual, facilitate group sessions as required.
- Provide and promote a safe and healthy environment which is free of harassment and which encourages a positive atmosphere. You must observe all legal and ethical requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional supervision and in service training as required.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the aims of the Foundation.
Essential Criteria:
- You most likely have qualifications and / or experience in working with young people, preferably those with alcohol and / or other drug related difficulties.
- A current driver’s license and a good driving record.
- You must be able to demonstrate initiative, creativity and practical life skills to organize positive group and individual recreational and other activities.
- Group management and crisis intervention skills are essential along with a mature, compassionate, commonsense approach to conflict resolution.
- Appreciation of how drug and alcohol issues may relate to young people and their families.
- High level ability to impart and model practical living skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including ability to engage clients positively while maintaining own boundaries.
- Strong self management and team participation skills.
- Capacity and willingness to work on a rotating shift basis, including day, evening, night and weekend shifts.
- Commitment to the principles of harm minimization and to the aims, policies and models of practice of the Ted Noffs Foundation.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of government and community networks and service providers
- Keyboard and data entry skills, preferably with Microsoft Office.
- First Aid Certificate.
